Today at Wondercon, Zenescope Entertainment announced that they are working on bringing their popular Grimm Fairy Tales comic series to life with an animated series. This is some pretty exciting news, we here at One-Quest are big fans of the Zenescope line of comics, plus they’re kinda local for us. So getting an animated series out of it would definitely be cool.
There is a small snag though, animated shows cost a lot of money. You’ve got to pay for everything and everyone working on it. So Zenescope is setting up a Kickstater campaign, and putting a call out to their fans for help. From today (3/16/12) until May 1st they are going to be taking donations for the project. The goal is $175,000, which sounds like a lot, but if they can get a pilot made and a company wants to green light it we could be looking at a pretty substantial series.
So if you’ve got the money, why not throw in a small donation? They’re actually giving away some pretty cool stuff depending on how much you donate. Hell, for a big enough donation they’ll actually draw you into the show and let you voice your own character. You can donate and check out all the cool stuff they’re giving away over on the Zenescope Kickstarter page.
Here is the official statement from Zenescope Entertainment
March 16, 2012, Zenescope Entertainment is proud to announce the launch of the Grimm Fairy Tales Animated Series Kickstarter campaign. The animated series will be directed by Jon Schnepp as well as the Titmouse Inc. animation studio. The Kickstarter will launch on Friday, March 16, 2012 and will run until May 1st, 2012.
The project requires a budget of $175,000 to cover the cost of the pilot episode and to produce the foundation materials necessary to continue the series. The official announcement of this Kickstarter project will be at WonderCon during the Hollywood and Comics 12:30 pm PST panel on March 16th. Ben Jackendoff will make the announcement, along with Jon Schnepp. Both will be available to discuss the project in more detail at the conclusion of the panel at the Zenescope booth, booth #100, at WonderCon, where Jon will also be signing during the show.

Zenescope Entertainment President Joe Brusha had this to say:
“We believe that our Grimm Fairy Tales comic book series would make an excellent animated series, and we’ve been pitching the idea to the Hollywood big-wigs for years. They’ve said “There is too much Fairy Tales stuff out there”, or “No one wants to see a gritty, dark, modern take on the fairy tales.” That’s where they’re wrong. We have tons of devoted fans that would love to see more of our series, and that is our chance and yours to make it happen.”
Grimm Fairy Tales has been the flagship series of Zenescope Entertainment since the company started. Zenescope has grown to a top comic book publisher due to its continued success. Grimm Fairy Tales is currently the longest running independent color comic being published today and has over 1 million copies in print.
Jon Schnepp will be directing this project. He is one of the hottest animation directors in Hollywood, having already seen a great deal of success working on such series as Aqua Teen Hunger Force , Metalocalypse, and the Venture Brothers. Not only will Jon be working closely with the creators of the comic book, Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco; Zenescope will be enlisting Titmouse Inc, one of the premiere animation studios, to help with this vision.
So what do you think about this announcement? Let us known in the comments!
