Games You (Probably) Should Have Played – F

GYPSHP_F

We can finally say that Next Generation in gaming is in full swing with the release of the final 2 entries in console war in just about a months time. To commemorate this event we’ve decided to take a look back at all of our favorite games, in alphabetical order, across every generation. We’re calling this the Games You (Probably) Should Have Played.

Some of our choices will be mainstream titles, some will be indie games that you’ve probably never heard of. A handful of these selections will be older then you, while others are younger than your car. All that matters is that in some way we feel that these games are worth playing. So come along for the ride, as we move into game that start with “F”. Don’t forget to tell us what your favorites are in the comments below!

Final Fantasy IV (SNES/PS1/DS – 1991)
This was a tough one for me, there are a lot of great games that start with the letter F that I wish everyone would have played. I ended up going with Final Fantasy IV for several reasons. It’s still pretty easy to come by, so if you haven’t played it you can easily get a copy of it. It’s also one of the lesser appreciated in the series. Everyone talks about Final Fantasy VI and VII being the best of the series, but there are really so many other wonderful entries. Final Fantasy IV is one of them, I’ll admit the story drags a bit near the end, but which game doesn’t? Hell Final Fantasy VII starts out disc 2 with just nonsense. Anyway the story for FFIV is great, the characters are compelling, and the gameplay is solid.

Final Fantasy X (PS2 – 2001)
I chose FFX over all other games in the series, and over all other FF titles because it’s one of my quintessential titles. Final Fantasy X didn’t usher in a new era of RPGs or anything, it just refined the formula to perfection. Easy for newcomers, and incredibly deep for genre veterans. It’s also the first in the series to feature voice acting, and some of the best graphics I have ever seen. If you’ve never played an FF game before, this is the one I’d point you toward to learn what the series is all about.

Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1 – 1998)
Remember a few days back when I said stay tuned for my other favorite game of all time? Well this is it. I absolutely love this game. It has a deep, intriguing story, tons of characters and classes, and lots to do. Like Diablo II it is difficult for me to find any real flaws with this game. It is an absolute must play for RPG fans. Also have you sensed a bit of a theme today???
