Friday Five – Guilty Pleasure Movies

Welcome to the Friday Five! Each week we help you get to know our writters a bit better with the help of a top 5 list! This weeks category: Guilty Pleasure Movies.

I’m starting to feel rehashed at this point. The past few weeks we’ve been bringing up lame movies like chick flicks, romantic comedies, and the like. It’s getting to the point where I’m having trouble finding decent options to list. But here we are, listing the 5 movies we’re embarrassed we like. The worst part about this: None of us are actually embarrassed we like these movies. No shame at One-Quest!

Chris

  1. A Knights Tale – This really isn’t a terrible movie, but it’s by no means good either. Something about the setting and the mixture of all the classic rock just keeps you watching…
  2. Teen Wolf – This isn’t a good movie, but it’s a classic of the ‘80s regardless, and everyone that saw it wanted to surf on a moving van.
  3. Demolition Man – Stallone made some god awful movies in the ‘90s after Rocky and Rambo kinda of ran their course, well until he made more sequels 20 years later. As bad as Demolition Man is though I can’t help but watch it whenever I see it on somewhere. Come on, seashells.
  4. Power Rangers The Movie – Ivan Ooze
  5. Airborne – The ‘90s were an extreme decade and Airborne was part of that. Who wouldn’t love to be in an underground inline skating race down an incredible dangerous hill just because they have to prove that the public school kids are better than the preps! If this isn’t real life I don’t know what is!

I find making these choices difficult. The fact that I like something makes it difficult to see that is was actually a bad movie.

  1. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters – I like your booty, but I’m not gay.
  2. The Time Machine – I’ve sat through this movie a few times with the knowledge that the general consensus being that it’s a bad movie. I don’t see it. I find it enjoyable and exciting.
  3. Spider-Man 3 – This movie get’s a lot of flack for being to. . . extravagant. I get it, emo Pete dancing in the streets is hardly what we expect the venomed up Parker of the comics to act like, but this isn’t the comics. It’s the movie verse, and happens to be directed by Sam Raimi. If you were expecting a straight laced superhero story, you saw the wrong movie!
  4. Power Rangers The Movie – I watched this 2 years ago at Otakon, in a fairly large theater, with all of my friends. We fuckin’ loved that shit! But it’s sooooo bad!
  5. The Wild Wild West – Will Smith is my, and should be every god damned persons, hero! The fact that he was in a western fighting robots, and a robot spider man is outrageous and amazing. I found the movie hilarious, and enjoyable.

I don’t usually experience guilt, I wear my eccentricities on display for all to see. That said, I’m having a difficult time with this one.

  1. Ghost Rider – I actually really enjoyed this movie, however I was told that I shouldn’t have.
  2. George of the Jungle – because as a pre adolescent, Brendan Fraser made my jaw drop.
  3. Rocky Horror Picture Show – this movie makes no sense whatsoever, but it’s all those damn songs intertwined within that keep me watching. Plus it reminds me on my teens.
  4. Showgirls – yup, I’ll watch it.
  5. Paranormal Activity – I know the series is lame, but I can’t get enough!

Sometimes in life, there are things you for whatever reason you just like even though it doesn’t fit in with the things you normally like and you’re kind of embarrassed for liking. These are guilty pleasures and that’s what we’re talking about this week. (Also, Happy Birthday Sara!)

  1. Mean Girls – You know what, Mean Girls is a funny movie. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are great as a teacher and the school principal. Also this movie was the height of Lindsay Lohan’s career (and hotness), she has since become a total train wreck.
  2. Chicago – I don’t really know why but I really like this movie. I don’t know what it is about it but I enjoy the songs and the story and the setting. But yeah, I enjoy this movie.
  3. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus – So, I’m not sure if this really counts cause it was originally on the Sci-Fi channel but you can get it stand alone on DVD/Blu-Ray (which I have the Blu-Ray lol). But it’s such a cheesy piece of crap that it’s phenomenal.
  4. Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter: The Movie (the live action one) – These movies, I understand why they were made but DAMN they sucks. But, they are so good in how bad they are.
  5. Days of Thunder – I like NASCAR so for me this was a pretty fun movie. I enjoyed the racing scenes at least. Also I totally forgot Michael Rooker was in it until recently.
