Games You (Probably) Should Have Played – L

GYPSHP_L

We can finally say that Next Generation in gaming is in full swing with the release of the final 2 entries in console war in just about a months time. To commemorate this event we’ve decided to take a look back at all of our favorite games, in alphabetical order, across every generation. We’re calling this the Games You (Probably) Should Have Played.

Some of our choices will be mainstream titles, some will be indie games that you’ve probably never heard of. A handful of these selections will be older then you, while others are younger than your car. All that matters is that in some way we feel that these games are worth playing. So come along for the ride, as we move into game that start with “L”. Don’t forget to tell us what your favorites are in the comments below!

Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (SNES – 1991)
I’m sure there aren’t many people who haven’t played LTTP, if you’re a Zelda fan this is a must have. The thing is, and I’ve complained about this before, LTTP doesn’t get nearly as much credit as it deserves in the Zelda franchise. Sure it’s a fan favorite, enough so that they’re releasing a sequel 22 years later. The thing is everyone says how Ocarina of Time set the standard for Zelda games, but frankly LTTP did this, it set the format that almost every game followed since, and it did it beautifully. So if you claim to be a Zelda fan, make sure this is somewhere in your gaming library it’s one of the best.

Luigi’s Mansion (GCN – 2001)
Since the beginning of time Luigi has been thrown in the background, never getting his own adventure. In 2001 Nintendo fixed that with the outstanding, Luigi’s Mansion. As Luigi, you explored an old mansion in search of Mario. The graphics were beyond beautiful, and the audio was absolutely impressive. You could actually hear how terrified Luigi was in his voice, as he called out to Mario. Using the trusty Poltergust 3000, Luigi would collect money, gems, and ghosts from the mansion on his quest. It took more than a decade to get a sequel, but it’s absolutely worth it!

Legend of Dragoon (PS1 – 2000)
This is another PS1 RPG that I never finished likely due to not fully appreciating how good it really was. It was a pretty good looking game for the time and had a unique combo system in the battles that let you deal extra damage and kept the combat from simply being picking menu items. This is a game I should really go back and finish one day.
