Friday Five – Futurama Episodes

Friday Five - Futurama Episodes

It’s Friday Five time again! The Friday Five brings you closer to the One-Quest staff in the form of a top 5 list! Each week we post a small (or sometimes incredibly large) bit of info about a category and list our top 5 items that fall within that category! This weeks topic of discussion is: Futurama Episodes! A fabulously nerdy show of epic proportions that anybody can get into! If you have not seen any of this show then check it out on Comedy Central, or Netflix! Without any further stalling. . . here’s our top 5 lists!

Eric

I have always been a big fan of The Simpsons, and I love everything dealing with outer space, so Futurama seems as natural to me as mac and cheese. There are non-stop laughs and nerdy references galore, every episode is pure gold. There’s so many memorable characters in this series, like Emperor Lrrr and Morbo, they’re all fantastic! And who can withstand the allure of The Crushinator? :-p Anyway, here’s my top 5 favorite episodes of Futurama:

  1. The Series has Landed – Whalers on the Moon and the Crushinator!
  2. Anthology of Interest II – Life like a video game, and fat human Bender.
  3. The Luck of the Fryish – I love how the episode changes Fry’s outlook on his brother, Yancy.
  4. Amazon Women in the Mood – Death by Snu-Snu!
  5. Jurassic Bark – Still makes me cry to this day…

From the very day Futurama was aired, it has been a go to comfort show for me. My older, cooler brother greatly disagreed with my position and argued that The Simpsons were better and that Futurama was full of monkey scrotum. Since he was older and knew a whole lot more then I, this must be true. So after that day I became a closet Futurama fan, usually associating the show with nerdy, uncool people. Now that I am grown, I have learned to take control of my inner geek and have but one thing to say… Screw you Rusty! This B*@!# is back for another season! Holla!

  1. Hell is Other Robots –  Everyone loves a sing-a-long.
  2. Godfellas – Atom Bombs exploding on Bender’s ass while floating in the abyss.
  3. Insane in the Mainframe – A bank robbery sends both Fry and Bender to a robot insane asylum where Fry starts to believe he is a robot!
  4. A Fishful of Dollars – Fry finds that interest built in his bank account while he was frozen and now wants to buy everything from his past.
  5. The Day the Earth Stood Stupid – Brains come to take over the world and it’s up to Fry to stop them.

Chris

I’ve been a fan of Futurama since the first episode aired. Even after it was initially cancelled I watched reruns whenever they were on. Some of my favorite episodes are ones that I haven’t seen in years but still stand out for either a stupid joke, or a sentimental moment.

  1. Jurassic Bark – Really sad ending, brings a tear to my eye almost every time
  2. Roswell that Ends Well – Fry’s his own grandfather…
  3. Godfellas
  4. Teenage Mutant Leela’s Hurdles – I just love the gargoyle dude at the end in France.
“And zhat, little one, is how papa gained his freedom. Now, bonne nuit, bonne nuit to you all.”
  5. Anthology of Interest II

Honorable mention for The Honking, because well it’s got an evil ass car.

Shahid

I honestly find Futurama to be one of Matt Groening’s greatest creations, more-so than the Simpsons. Definitely one of my favorite animated shows out there.

  1. How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back – Who doesn’t love Hermes?
  2. The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings – Cause I certainly want awesome robot hands.
  3. Anthology of Interest II – Human Bender. Wooooo!
  4. Fry and the Slurm Factory – Willy Wonka in the future? Awwwww yeah.
  5. The Day the Earth Stood Stupid – Just because Nibbler is adorable <3
Jurassic Bark
You are now crying, aren’t you?

Ah, Futurama, a good show and pretty underrated by the general public. Like Shahid I think it may be better than the Simpsons in some regards. In no particular order:

  1. Love’s Labours Lost in Space – First appearance of Zapp Brannigan and Kif Kroker
  2. Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love – Zoidberg during mating season, need I say more?
  3. Teenage Mutant Leela’s Hurdles – The crew goes backwards in age and become teens again
  4. Hell Is Other Robots – First appearance of the Robot Devil and his solid gold fiddle
  5. The Problem with Popplers – The crew finds a delicious food on a planet when making a delivery, but it turns out to be living babies of the planet’s home creatures

Futurama is a great and fairly long lived series. Sitting on 7 seasons with one cancellation (then resigning with a different network), the show has a great fan base and is a classic (even though taking place 1000 years in the future). Although it has not lasted quite as long as it’s sister show The Simpsons, with now 23 seasons, Matt Groening knows how to captivate and keep fans watching. I love the show because although it is geared as a comedy there are many sad moments when Fry misses his life in the past. I love that Matt Groening will always point out little things in one episode and bring it back in another. The best example I have is when Fry learns that Nibbler pushed him into the freeze chamber, in the movie Benders Big Score when Fry goes to the past you see a shadow of Nibbler actually pushing the chair to get him into the Freeze chamber and into the future. With that said my list starts out awesome but goes into a sad ending. I am doing this in reverse 5-1 this week to not spoil my number 1 favorite episode.

  1. Godfellas – This is just a good episode all together. Bender becomes a God.
  2. Roswell that Ends Well – I’m pretty much with Chris on this one
  3. A Bicyclops made for two – The internet is virtual and all the married with children refrences
  4. The Duh-Vinci Code – The smartest human ever is the dumbest alien in the universe lol
  5. Jurassic Bark – This is where they get me every time. If only fry knew that although his dog lived for 16 years most of it was waiting on him. I get sad just thinking about it :’{.
